The summit of Bowen Peak is peaceful. It contrasts with the often-crowded summit of Ben Lomond. A rustic trig marker sits on top.
From here, you get a great view of Ben Lomond itself. The Wakatipu Basin stretches to the east. Look southeast for the “ski jump” outline of Peninsula Hill. It’s a roche moutonnée.

To attempt this, descend from Ben Lomond back to the saddle. Then make your way up the unmarked Bowen Peak. It’s best to hike when visibility is good. That’s more than 100 meters.

The final stretch involves navigating tussock-covered terrain. It’s a bit of a bushwhack. But the views make it worth it.
