Lake Wakatipu

His heart, eternally aflame, causes the rhythmic rise and fall of the water. This natural phenomenon is called a seiche, a standing wave caused by wind and atmospheric pressure. But the legend adds a touch of magic to the science. The TSS Earnslaw, a vintage steamboat, gracefully plies these waters. Its presence is a reminder of a time when Lake Wakatipu was a vital artery, connecting Queenstown to the outside world. Today, the lake is a playground for adventure.
