Gazing at the Alte Neuendorfer Kirche, did you notice its unusual shape? This octagonal gem, a striking yellow brick building, stands proudly on Neuendorfer Anger. The Alte Neuendorfer Kirche was consecrated in January 1853. It owes its unique design to King Friedrich Wilhelm IV himself. He envisioned a central building with Gothic influences. His vision was brought to life by architect Christian Heinrich Ziller, based on plans by Ludwig Ferdinand Hesse. The church wasn’t always so pristine. After World War II, it lay in ruins. Thanks to the tireless efforts of a citizens’ initiative and countless volunteers, the Alte Neuendorfer Kirche was painstakingly restored. They meticulously researched every detail. Both the exterior and interior were returned to their original glory. Today, the Alte Neuendorfer Kirche is a jewel on the Anger. Although no longer consecrated as a church, it serves a special purpose. Couples can exchange vows here. It’s a romantic setting for civil weddings in the heart of Babelsberg. The building is a testament to the community’s dedication and a symbol of resilience. It is a place where history and modern life intertwine.
