Did you know that this stele commemorates Arleta? It honors a remarkable Greek musician, author, and illustrator. The Arleta Stele stands as a testament to her enduring legacy.

Arleta was born Argyro-Nicoleta Tsapra in Athens on March 3, 1945. She passed away on August 8, 2017, at the age of 72. Arleta’s artistic journey began at the Athens School of Fine Arts. There, she honed her creative skills.

In 1966, Arleta released her first album. It was titled “Arleta sings”. This marked her entry into the Greek New Wave music scene. She quickly became a leading figure. Arleta collaborated with renowned Greek composers. These included Giannis Spanos and Mikis Theodorakis.

Her career soared with songs written by Lakis Papadopoulos. Marianina Kriezi wrote the lyrics. Arleta’s performances in Athens’ boîtes were very successful. Her unique voice and style captivated audiences.

Beyond music, Arleta was a talented author and illustrator. In 1997, she published a book. It was called “Which way to Spring”. The book showcased her songwriting and illustrations.

Arleta faced health challenges in her later years. In 2008, she suffered a stroke before a performance in Volos. This left her partly paralyzed. After rehabilitation, she recovered. Sadly, another stroke in January 2017 led to her death.

This Arleta Stele serves as a reminder of her contributions to Greek culture. Arleta’s discography includes many albums. “Arleta sings” was her debut. Other notable works include “Arleta No. 2” and “In the Rhythm of the Wind”. She also created illustrations for children’s books. One example is Bertolt Brecht’s “Uncle Eddie’s Moustache”.

Consider the impact of steles throughout history. Ancient Greece used them as funerary markers. They evolved from simple archetypes to complex family scenes. China used steles for commemorative texts and calligraphy. The Rosetta Stone is probably the most famous stele of all time. It unlocked the secrets of Egyptian hieroglyphs.

The Arleta Stele invites us to remember her life. She was a multifaceted artist. Her music, writing, and illustrations touched many hearts. This monument ensures that Arleta’s spirit lives on in Athens.
