The curriculum was extensive. Visiting faculty from Hanoi covered finance and socialist planning. This early collaboration shaped the university’s foundation.

As Cambodia opened to the world, the institute transformed. In the early 1990s, it became the Faculty of Business. The Asia Foundation provided initial support. Later, USAID granted funds through Georgetown University and the University of San Francisco.

Teacher training and curriculum development were key. The focus shifted towards an international business school model. Marketing and accounting majors appeared. The undergraduate program shortened from five to four years. The University of San Francisco Law School added commercial law courses.

In 2004, a significant milestone occurred. The Faculty of Business became the National University of Management. New programs emerged. Tourism and hospitality management joined the curriculum. Finance, banking, and management information systems also became available.

The National University of Management launched Cambodia’s first MBA program. This was in cooperation with University Utara Malaysia. Further collaborations extended to Europe. A faculty exchange program with the University of Antwerp began. A center for entrepreneurship and development opened with Fisk University and Tennessee State University.

Today, over 10,000 students attend the National University of Management in Phnom Penh. It also operates a Bachelor of Business Administration program in Battambang. That campus serves over 700 students.
