“Ever wondered what secrets lie within a derelict nightclub?” The Old Batman Nightclub in Pattaya stands before you a testament to Pattaya’s vibrant past. Built in 1994 south of Bangkok this six-story behemoth was once a pulsating heart of Pattaya’s nightlife scene. Western tourists flocked here for a taste of Thai nightlife. The Batman logo beamed across the city attracting revelers to its doors. But the party didn’t last.
Just eighteen months after opening the Old Batman Nightclub was shut down. Underage drinking and drug use brought its reign to an abrupt end. The building’s upper floors housed a members-only snooker club. Only the bottom two levels were dedicated to disco dancing. A photographer Dax Ward captured its current state of decay. His images reveal a flooded ground floor once a vibrant dance area with a bar and stage.
Mr Hae a former staff manager shared a somber story. He spoke of a fire that engulfed the club not long after its closure. He claimed a circuit board overload caused the blaze. Electrically operated doors malfunctioned trapping people inside. Hae’s account however remains unverified. The club now sits abandoned owned by a local bank. Its current state is unsettling. Flooded rooms decaying structures and a lingering sense of unease permeate the air.
Despite its derelict condition the Old Batman Nightclub shows unexpected beauty. Graffiti artists have transformed its walls into a vibrant canvas. Their work brings a touch of life to this decaying landmark. Yet danger lurks. The building is structurally unsound. Holes in the floors and a missing elevator pose serious risks. Rodents insects and even birds inhabit its decaying interiors. In 2018 a body was even found in the flooded basement.
The Old Batman Nightclub serves as a poignant reminder. It reflects the fleeting nature of popularity and the enduring power of decay. Yet amidst the ruin beauty and mystery persist. As you stand here you can almost hear the echoes of the past. You can imagine the laughter and music that once filled these now silent halls. The Old Batman Nightclub’s legacy lives on a ghostly reminder of Pattaya’s vibrant and sometimes tragic past.
