Can you feel the sea breeze? It carries whispers of ancient wisdom right to the Sanctuary of Truth.

Welcome. You are standing before a unique marvel. This isn’t just another temple. The Sanctuary of Truth is a museum under construction in Pattaya. But it is open to all. Hard hats are provided for your safety.

Lek Viriyaphan. Remember that name. He was a Thai businessman with a grand vision. He designed this hybrid structure. It blends a temple and a castle. The Sanctuary’s theme draws from the Ayutthaya Kingdom. It also reflects Buddhist and Hindu beliefs.

Look closely. The entire Sanctuary of Truth is made of wood. No nails were used. Traditional Thai craftsmanship is on full display. The main types of wood are Mai Deang, Mai Takien, Mai Panchaat, and Teak. Each wood offers unique textures. Takien wood forms the main posts. It is expected to last for 600 years.

Construction began in 1981. It is still ongoing. The completion date is estimated for 2025. The Sanctuary covers 13 hectares. The internal space is 2,115 square meters. Now glance up. The tallest spire reaches 105 meters. That is 344 feet.

Notice the four-faced Brahma statue on the rooftop. It shows respect for father, mother, teacher, and king. Ganesha, the elephant-headed god, also graces the structure.

Consider the halls around you. The Northern hall features Guanyin. It also includes sculptures showing wisdom. This wisdom promotes emancipation. The Southern hall presents astronomical themes. The sun, moon, and planets are featured. These celestial bodies impact people’s well-being. The Western hall embodies the classical elements. Earth, water, wind, and fire are all represented. Sculptures depict the Hindu Trinity: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. These gods conquer the four elements. The Eastern hall showcases familial representations. The Sanctuary visually portrays eastern religious concepts. It also shows the cycle of life.

Feel the spiritual energy. The Sanctuary of Truth aims to unite diverse faiths. It embodies seven truths through carvings and sculptures. These truths explore life, humanity, and our place in the cosmos.

The first truth is birth and death. It reminds us of life’s transient nature. The second truth is cause and effect. Our choices shape our destinies. The third truth acknowledges the end of life. It encourages us to cherish our time. The fourth truth celebrates human civilization’s achievements. The fifth truth prompts us to seek our life’s purpose. The sixth truth recognizes the duality of human nature. The seventh truth emphasizes family bonds.

Take a walk around the Sanctuary of Truth. Appreciate the intricate carvings. Every inch reveals skilled craftsmanship. The ongoing construction symbolizes eternal development. It shows the continuous search for truth.

The Sanctuary of Truth faced challenges. Financial difficulties arose. The project requires high-quality teak wood. Skilled artisans are needed. Some critics questioned the artistic choices. Environmental concerns were raised about teak wood use.

Despite these issues, the Sanctuary of Truth persists. It is a testament to artistic beauty. It also shows cultural complexities.

As you leave, remember the intention of Lek Viriyaphan. He sought to create a space for unity. The Sanctuary of Truth is more than a building. It is a vision of harmony carved in wood. It is a place where everyone can feel represented.
