From a simple gathering on the village green, Wolvercote Baptist Church blossomed. Wolvercote Baptist Church stands as a testament to the unwavering faith of a small group. In the 19th century, a house in Wolvercote served as a Dissenters’ Meeting House. This eventually lapsed. Non-Conformists in Wolvercote had to travel to Summertown or Oxford for services. In 1884, Mr. Ernest Alden, from New Road Baptist Church in Oxford, arrived in Wolvercote on a mission. He began preaching on the village green. His sermons resonated with the local community. A small group started meeting regularly, first in a house, then in a barn. Their growing faith and determination led to the construction of Wolvercote Baptist Church in 1886. This church building became a spiritual home for the burgeoning Baptist community in Wolvercote. In 1985 Wolvercote Baptist Church joined forces with Woodstock and Kidlington Baptist Churches. They formed a supportive network of Baptist congregations. Wolvercote Baptist Church has stood as a beacon of faith in Wolvercote for over a century.
