Ever heard of a concert hall needing a new wing? The Hochschule Osnabrück – Institut für Musik needs one. Right here before us stands this renowned institution. It’s a place where the sounds of classical music jazz and pop intermingle. A unique place indeed.

The Institut für Musik or IfM as it’s affectionately known boasts a rich history. It began in 1919 as the Städtisches Konservatorium Osnabrück. The school found various homes over the years. One interesting location was the former Freemasons’ lodge. This was after the lodge was banned during the Nazi era. Sadly a bombing raid destroyed that building in 1944.

After World War II the school resumed operations. Eventually it became part of the Hochschule Osnabrück in 2000. This move marked a significant step in its evolution. The IfM offers a wide array of musical studies. These include classical music jazz pop musical theatre and elementary music education. Students gain artistic and scientific skills. The IfM is committed to bridging the gap between traditional musical styles and the digital age.

One unique aspect of this place is its commitment to inter-stylistic universality. The IfM doesn’t favor one genre over another. It believes in the equal value of all types of music. This is truly a unique and admirable approach.

In 2022 the IfM moved into a stunning new building. It comprises three interconnected structures nicknamed the rehearsal house movement house and stage house. This modern building perfectly represents the Institut’s innovative approach. This new space is a significant improvement over past venues.

But the story doesn’t end there. The IfM’s impressive new concert hall lacks a grand piano. A high-quality grand piano is crucial. It’s essential for concerts and daily practice. The institute is fundraising to buy this essential instrument. They creatively call it a “key donation”. Each white key represents a 1000 euro donation. Each black key represents a 500 euro donation. Your contribution would help to support talented young musicians. It would help them build a bright future in music.

So stand here with me. Let’s admire this remarkable institution. The Hochschule Osnabrück – Institut für Musik. It has a proud legacy. It also has a bright and innovative future. Let the music inspire you.
