Hidden behind Gebaeude 01 – HVZ’s sleek facade lies a story of innovative design. Gebaeude 01 – HVZ isn’t just a building. It’s a carefully crafted learning landscape. Benthem Crouwel Architects designed this space with a unique vision. They envisioned a university building that could adapt to the ever-changing needs of students. The building opened in 2014. It boasts a spacious 7280 square meters. The architects carved a cutaway section at the base of Gebaeude 01 – HVZ. This creates a striking entrance and a strong connection to the surrounding campus. Light floods the lobby through a glass roof, creating an airy and inviting atmosphere. Gebaeude 01 – HVZ’s layout is simple and compact. Classrooms and emergency staircases flank the building. The central core houses the lobby, technical rooms, and a green courtyard. Large lecture halls are strategically placed to receive natural light from the courtyard. The heart of Gebaeude 01 – HVZ is its learning landscape. This dynamic space connects all floors with platforms of varying widths. These platforms create a unique, tiered environment. Students can gather, study, and exchange ideas in this interactive setting. The architects carefully considered the acoustics and lighting within Gebaeude 01 – HVZ. Sound-absorbing materials and integrated lighting elements ensure a comfortable and productive learning environment. The facade of Gebaeude 01 – HVZ features a rigid grid pattern. Different window heights break up the structure and add visual interest. These varying window sizes also reflect the diverse spaces within. A two-tiered system protects the building. A green insulating foil membrane shields the facade. Folded, perforated aluminum panels create a dynamic outer layer. The green color is a nod to the university’s origins in agricultural sciences and landscape architecture. Gebaeude 01 – HVZ is more than just a university building. It’s a testament to innovative design and a forward-thinking approach to education.
