This alteration was courtesy of Heinrich von Leden the third. He also connected the Steinwerk to the great hall of the Ledenhof. A lavatory was added. The stone itself speaks volumes. Muschelkalk from the Westerberg quarry built its foundation. The most substantial part of the structure however was created from Darumer sandstone. It could be worked easily. The sandstone could even be polished. A clear sign of the builders’ skill and attention to detail.
The Ledenhof’s history is complex. It changed hands many times. It hosted a variety of purposes over the centuries. It even served as a music library. Today it houses the German Foundation for Peace Research. It stands as a reminder that even stone structures have stories to tell.
