Spanning the Yodo River, the Dōbutsuen-mae Bridge connects two worlds. The Dōbutsuen-mae Bridge, also known as Densō Ōhashi, isn’t just a bridge. It’s a symbol of Osaka’s resilience and growth. The original Dōbutsuen-mae Bridge, a Langer girder bridge, was completed in 1942. It was part of the Osaka City plan, specifically route 33, which later became part of National Route 43. This bridge, with its 765.1-meter length and 17-meter width, bore witness to Osaka’s transformation after World War II. Increased traffic led to the construction of a new Dōbutsuen-mae Bridge downstream. This new bridge, a steel box girder bridge, was finished in 1969. It’s slightly longer than its predecessor, at 860.3 meters, but narrower, with a width of 15.5 meters. Both bridges stand as testaments to Osaka’s constant evolution, connecting the past and the present. They reflect Osaka’s growth from a merchant city to a major industrial hub, always adapting to the changing times. They stand as silent witnesses to the city’s dynamic spirit.
