Behold Kunosuke-bashi Bridge. A seemingly simple span. Yet its story stretches back centuries. This bridge you see today isn’t the original. That one was a wooden structure dating back to the era of Hideyoshi. Imagine bustling merchants crossing it. Their carts laden with bamboo and wood. The name Kunosuke-bashi is intriguing. It possibly refers to the nearby Kuhoji Temple. Or perhaps to the many people from Kuhoji Village who settled here. This was after the Dotonbori River was excavated in 1612. The west side connected to Senba’s heart. It was close to Shinmachi and Dotonbori. This area thrived with haberdashery dealers and craftsmen.
Kunosuke-bashi Bridge was once just 42 meters long and 3.6 meters wide. The current structure is quite different. It’s a reinforced concrete bridge. This Gelber type bridge measures 41.52 meters in length and 12.50 meters in width. Three spans are supported by two piers. The deep green railings are striking. The bridge is elegantly lit at night.
