Is this where it all began? Alto Selva Alegre. A district born not from ancient civilizations, but from the dreams of a determined few. You see, Alto Selva Alegre wasn’t always a name on a map. It began as a whisper, a vision shared by a handful of individuals like Alejandro Pareja Bueno, Miguel Escalante Vela, and Augusto Rivera Bueno. In the shadow of the mighty Misti Volcano, amidst the arid beauty of the Arequipa landscape, they carved out a space for their aspirations. In 1947, they formally christened their community “Alto de la Selva Alegre,” a beacon of hope nestled between the historic heart of Arequipa and the majestic slopes of El Misti. The Chili River became their lifeblood, a natural border separating them from Cayma, while a torrent carved their boundary with Miraflores. Over time, Alto Selva Alegre grew, evolving from a humble settlement into a bustling district. It wasn’t always easy. The devastating earthquakes of 1958 and 1960 tested their resolve, but from the rubble arose a spirit of resilience. Today, Alto Selva Alegre stands as a testament to their unwavering spirit, a vibrant tapestry of neighborhoods, each with its unique story to tell.
