What’s red, blue, and bound to bring a smile to your face? That’s right, we’re standing right before Slinky Dog Dash, Andy’s very own creation in the heart of Toy Story Land. This isn’t your average coaster. Imagine being shrunk down to the size of a toy, racing through a world built by Andy himself. See that giant coaster kit over there? That’s the Dash & Dodge Mega Coaster Kit, and according to Imagineers, Andy used it, along with his imagination and a whole lot of Tinkertoys, to build this whimsical ride.
But Slinky Dog Dash is full of surprises. Keep an eye out for special Easter eggs scattered throughout the queue. You’ll find Andy’s sketches and plans, crayon-scribbled and full of childhood glee. Did you know the barcode on the Dash & Dodge Mega Coaster Kit box isn’t random? It actually reveals the founding date of Pixar Animation Studios and the opening date of Magic Kingdom!
Now hold onto your hats as Slinky Dog takes you on a wild ride, complete with two launches that mimic the feeling of being a pull-back toy. You’ll zoom past giant blocks, swerve around a towering Jenga stack topped with Rex, and even get a glimpse of Jessie holding on for dear life. The highlight? The second launch, known as “The Big Stop,” will have you feeling like you’re being pulled back and released, just like the springy toy itself. As you catch your breath on the final brake run, be sure to give a warm welcome to Wheezy the penguin. This audio-animatronic version of the beloved toy serenades riders with a heartwarming rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.” Slinky Dog Dash perfectly captures the magic and nostalgia of Toy Story, reminding us that even in a world obsessed with the newest, shiniest toys, there’s always a special place for the classics.
