Legend has it that a freak snowstorm swept through Florida back in ’77, blanketing the area with pristine powder. Eager entrepreneurs seized the opportunity, constructing Florida’s first ski resort. However, the Florida sunshine had other plans. As temperatures rose, the snow melted, leaving behind a slushy, watery mess. Just as the disheartened developers were about to pack up, a peculiar sight caught their eye. A blue alligator, christened Ice Gator, came barreling down the melting slopes, landing with a splash in a pool of snowmelt. Inspiration struck! The resort was transformed into Disney’s Blizzard Beach, a watery wonderland where you can experience the thrill of a ski resort without the need for winter gear. Keep an eye out for Ice Gator, he’s still zooming around the park today. He especially loves Summit Plummet, a 120-foot tall free-fall slide that sends you plummeting down at a breathtaking 60 miles per hour.
