This half-timbered house isn’t just a building. It’s a living testament to the Naturfreunde movement in Nuremberg. For over 75 years this Naturfreundehaus Nürnberg-Mitte has been a hub for activity. It has been a place of community and nature. Located at Adolf-Braun-Strasse 40 it stands as a part of a protected historic ensemble.

The Naturfreundehaus Nürnberg-Mitte is one of three Naturfreunde groups in Nuremberg. It boasts around 300 members. These members range from young to old. Their interests are diverse. They include politics culture mountaineering hiking and many more. The group’s passion lies in mountain and water sports. For over 20 years they’ve organised a family holiday in Slovenia. This event attracts around 150 participants each time.

Eighteen trained instructors ensure safety in all activities. Regular summer kayak training sessions take place on the Rednitz River. Mountain biking children’s and gardening groups also meet here. They gather at and around the Naturfreundehaus Nürnberg-Mitte.

Inside the ‘Fuchsloch’ or ‘Foxhole’ as it is affectionately known members gather. They hold discussions on political issues. They attend lectures and film screenings. Sometimes they simply relax and chat. The Naturfreundehaus Nürnberg-Mitte is more than a meeting place. It’s a second home. It is a place of friendship and community.

The house itself is a marvel. It’s a beautiful example of traditional half-timbered architecture. It’s leased from the city of Nuremberg. It requires constant care.
