Have you ever imagined a mosque with a chandelier made of 24-karat gold and Swarovski crystals? This is no ordinary mosque, it is the Mohammed Al Ameen Mosque, a beacon of modern Islamic architecture in Muscat, Oman. As you stand before it, you are greeted by a majestic structure that rises 62.5 meters above sea level. The mosque stands off the Southern Expressway, a marble-clad marvel that has attracted visitors from all over the world.

The Mohammed Al Ameen Mosque is a symbol of Omani devotion and religious commitment. It is also a testament to the incredible collaboration of designers, artists, and suppliers from around the globe. Construction began in 2008 and was completed in 2014. During those six years, craftsmen from Iran, Italy, Germany, Austria, India, and the UK worked tirelessly to bring the mosque to life. It rests on an area of 20,300 sq. m. The main prayer hall is a grand space that measures 1616 sq. m. and can accommodate over 2,100 people.

As you enter the mosque, be sure to cast your eyes upwards. The intricate carvings on the walls are breathtaking – 3,000 square meters of hand-carved stone in the form of Islamic patterns and calligraphy. The interior design is a showcase of modern Omani style with rich carved woods accenting white marble. The atmosphere inside is truly serene and welcoming. But it is the chandeliers that truly steal the show. The 11-meter tall chandelier in the main prayer hall is a sight to behold. It dwarfs even the 4.5-meter tall chandelier in the ladies’ prayer hall. The glittering chandeliers are a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship of the artisans who built this incredible monument.

Mohammed Al Ameen Mosque is not just a place of worship. It is a testament to the beauty of Islamic culture and art, and a symbol of Oman’s commitment to embracing modern advancements. This mosque is truly a must-see for anyone visiting Muscat.
