It is believed that during his journey to Lanka, Lord Rama stopped here. Legend has it that he created a shiva linga out of sand, which is now housed in the Walkeshwar Temple. The hill was also the domain of the influential Keyi family, who originally hailed from Kerala’s Northern Malabar region, and who had business connections with the French, Portuguese, and the British. It was their generosity that gifted this land to the East India Company.
