“I will and I can” is not just a motto. It encapsulates the spirit of Jai Hind College. Founded in 1948 this institution rose from the ashes of partition. It was born from the vision of professors displaced from D.J. Sind College in Karachi. These educators sought to rehabilitate the Sindhi community through education. They aimed to create an institution of par excellence.
Jai Hind College started humbly with just two rooms. It initially focused on arts. The college quickly expanded. Science courses were introduced in 1949. Commerce followed in 1980. Post-2000, Jai Hind embraced vocational courses. These aimed to boost student employability. Courses like BMS, BMM, BAF, BBI, and BFM were introduced. B. Voc programs in Travel & Tourism and Software Development were also launched. Recently, the college added M.Sc. in Big Data Analytics and BBA. These were created in collaboration with TCS.
Today, Jai Hind College offers many programs. There are 13 UG programs and 5 PG programs. It also has 1 research program. Fifty-one certificate and skill development courses enrich the curriculum. In 2018, Jai Hind achieved Autonomous Status. This was granted by the Union Ministry of HRD and the University of Mumbai.
Jai Hind College stands proudly on ‘A’ Road near Churchgate Station. Its location is opposite the Arabian Sea Marine Drive promenade. This prime spot in South Mumbai adds to its allure.
Jai Hind College is known for its vibrant student life. Its college fests are legendary. SHOUTT, Detour, Talaash, and Entourage are just a few. Zodiak, Voyage, Arthanomics, and Cyberstrike add to the excitement.
The college has a friendly atmosphere. This enhances effective learning. It provides modern labs and a well-stocked library. The library uses the 23rd edition of DDC. It also offers access to NLIST.
Jai Hind College boasts many notable alumni. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan graced its halls. Priyanka Chopra also walked these corridors. Kiara Advani, Nushrratt Bharuccha, and Kajal Aggarwal are also alumni. The list extends to actors like John Abraham and Riteish Deshmukh. Singers Shaan and Sagarika also attended Jai Hind. Even ICICI Bank’s former CEO Chanda Kochhar is an alumna. Ajay Piramal, chairman of Piramal Group, is another distinguished name.
