Gazing at the Pfarrkirche St. Pankratius Rinkerode, can you hear the whispers of centuries past? This seemingly tranquil church, nestled in Rinkerode, a district of Drensteinfurt, Germany, holds within its walls a captivating narrative spanning from the 13th century to the present day. Pfarrkirche St. Pankratius Rinkerode wasn’t always the structure we admire today. Originally a church under the ownership of the cathedral chapter, its first recorded pastor dates back to 1250. The current building, a vaulted hall church with three bays, arose between 1721 and 1724. Constructed from brick under the masterful eye of Gottfried Laurenz Pictorius, it showcases a fascinating blend of architectural styles. The church’s tower, standing proudly on the west side, is faced with sandstone. Its upper level transitions into an octagon, crowned by a curved dome, a testament to the architectural prowess of the time. Inside Pfarrkirche St. Pankratius Rinkerode, a treasure trove of artifacts awaits. An early Rococo high altar, adorned with figures and paintings depicting Christ’s ascension, takes center stage. A late Romanesque baptismal font, intricately carved with a foliage frieze from the early 13th century, stands as a silent witness to generations of baptisms. A four-seated choir stall from the mid-16th century, boasts intricate Renaissance carvings. Six apostle figures from the late 16th century and another six from the latter half of the 18th century stand sentinel. A small stone epitaph from 1614, commemorating Johann and Dorothea von Galen, depicts the donors and the crucifixion. Even a bronze lion, cast in the early 13th century, adds to the church’s rich collection. The church’s organ, built in 1883 by Friedrich Fleiter and housed in a case designed by Wilhelm Rincklake, adds another layer to the church’s story. Modified in 1952 and restored in 1976, then again in 2008, it continues to fill the church with its resonant melodies. The Pfarrkirche St. Pankratius Rinkerode is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a living testament to the enduring power of faith and history, a place where the echoes of the past intertwine with the present.
