After his death, the cult of St. Pantaleon spread quickly. Christians in the Eastern Roman Empire particularly revered him. He is venerated as a miraculous saint. People believed he could heal diseases. He also protected physicians and midwives. His feast day is celebrated on July 27th.

Interestingly, St. Pantaleon in Cologne is a Romanesque church from the 10th century. Theophanu commissioned it. She was the niece of the Byzantine Emperor. She married the Holy Roman Emperor Otto II in 972. It is the oldest church dedicated to St. Pantaleon west of Byzantium.
