The Дом-музей Андрея Белого offers visitors a unique chance to immerse themselves in the world of this Silver Age icon.

This museum is located in house number 55 on the corner of Arbat Street and Denezhny Lane. More precisely, it’s on the third floor of this building. This apartment is where Andrei Bely was born. It is connected to his earliest memories and first conscious understandings. He spent twenty-six years of his life here from his birth until 1906.

Later in his life, Bely moved around quite a bit. He lived in various corners of Moscow. He stayed in the Kuchino countryside outside Moscow. He also spent time in St. Petersburg and Tsarskoe Selo. Furthermore, he sojourned in Dornach, Switzerland and Berlin. Yet, he always considered Arbat his true home. He considered this house the truest of all his homes. It is fitting that it now houses the Дом-музей Андрея Белого.

Here in this apartment, Andrei Bely attended the famous private gymnasium of Lev Polivanov. Later, he went on to study at Moscow University. Here at the university, he experienced his first anxieties about life. He also suffered the bitter pain of his father’s death.

Born Boris Bugaev into a professor’s family, he became the writer Andrei Bely. He became the leader of the Moscow Symbolists. Дом-музей Андрея Белого allows you to experience the atmosphere of the early 20th century. You can explore the life and work of this remarkable figure.
