Welcome to a space where Monterrey’s industrial past meets its vibrant cultural present. This isn’t just another arts center. It’s a transformation. Centro de las Artes I stands as a testament to Monterrey’s evolution. Once, these buildings echoed with the sounds of industry. Now, they resonate with creativity.
Imagine these very halls filled with the clamor of machinery. They formed part of the Fundidora Monterrey. This was a major steel plant. Today, within the Parque Fundidora, Centro de las Artes I offers a different kind of production. It fosters artistic expression.
The complex comprises former industrial buildings. These spaces have been repurposed to house a theater, a film library known as the Cineteca Nuevo León, and the Nuevo León photo library. You’ll also find exhibition halls and the Nave Generadores here.
The Cineteca Nuevo León is a haven for film lovers. It showcases local, national, and international films. It also preserves the cinematic history of northeastern Mexico. The Fototeca Nuevo León holds over 350,000 images. It is dedicated to cataloging, digitizing, and preserving Nuevo León’s photographic heritage. The center also presents temporary exhibitions and educational programs.
The exhibition halls and Nave Generadores display traditional and contemporary visual arts. They promote the work of national and international artists. The Teatro del Centro de las Artes hosts music, theater, and dance festivals. It has a seating capacity of 348 people.
Centro de las Artes I opened its doors on July 13, 1990. The Consejo para la Cultura y las Artes de Nuevo León spearheaded the renovation project. They worked with the state government and federal entities. Generous contributions from local businesses also helped revitalize this abandoned heritage site.
The Nave Generadores, Pabellón de Ruedas, Escuela Adolfo Prieto, and Auditorio Carlos Prieto were added to the complex. They provide infrastructure for various artistic and cultural events. In early 2008, CONARTE received these spaces.
