It’s the brainchild of Fletcher Benton, an American sculptor known for his bold geometric creations. Benton, believe it or not, started as a sign painter. But he yearned for more than just flat surfaces. He wanted to bring movement and dimension to his art. That’s how he ended up creating sculptures like this one, where he plays with shapes we think we know, like donuts and spheres, and puts them together in unexpected, thought-provoking ways. The Donut with Balls Number 28 was gifted to the University of Miami in 2006 by Dr. and Mrs. Daniel Powers. It’s a testament to Benton’s unique artistic vision and a reminder that sometimes, the simplest shapes can create the most intriguing art.
