Do you know why they call them the Conquistadors? We’re standing before Florida National University, and the answer to that question is woven into the very fabric of this place. Florida National University has a spirit of ambition and perseverance, much like the explorers of old. It first opened its doors in 1982, but not as Florida National University. Back then, it was known as Computech Institute. Just a few years later, a trio of visionaries – Dr. Jose Regueiro, Dr. Maria C. Regueiro, and Mr. Omar Sanchez – saw the potential for something greater. They acquired the Hialeah campus of Computech Institute in 1987 and, on January 4th, 1988, Florida International Institute was born. The institute started with a focus on practical fields, offering programs in business, computers, dental tech, electronics, medical fields, paralegal studies, and even travel. As the student body grew, so did the institution’s ambitions. First, it became Florida International College, then Florida National College in 1989. That same year, they opened a second campus in Miami, followed by a third in 1990. The dream of providing a comprehensive education blossomed, and in 2012, Florida National College officially became Florida National University. Today, Florida National University stands as a testament to the transformative power of education and a tribute to the spirit of the Conquistadors who dared to explore new horizons.
