Masjid Al Mastarah also known as Masjid Bani Haritha holds a special place in Medina’s heart. It’s where the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him found rest and offered prayers after the arduous Battle of Uhud. The name Mustarah itself means “to take rest”. Can you imagine the weight of that battle the relief he must have felt seeking solace here?

The Prophet frequently sought respite here after visiting the graves of Hamza and the other martyrs of Uhud. He found comfort within these walls.

It has been renovated and expanded several times most notably during the reign of King Fahd. Now it covers 491 square meters a testament to its enduring importance. It features a beautiful dome and a minaret. Its rectangular shape is simple yet dignified.
A Turkish castle once stood near the mosque. It was removed in 1995. Its removal revealed more of the mosque’s history. Imagine the stories it could tell. But even without the castle Masjid Al Mastarah’s story remains compelling.
