Perched atop these gentle slopes, Kroksbäcksparken reveals its story. This is not just any park. Kroksbäcksparken is a testament to transformation.

Let’s journey back to the 1970s. This park was established then. Kroksbäck and Holma were also built at the same time. Farmland once stretched where we stand. Excavation soil from nearby construction formed the seven hills that define Kroksbäcksparken. Imagine the scene. Bulldozers shaped the landscape creating these very hills.

The 1980s brought a wave of naturalization. The park’s design shifted. Long-lived trees found their home here. These trees aimed to create a more enduring and varied environment.

In the 1990s, the park evolved further. Ponds appeared in the northern section. A butterfly sanctuary emerged. This sanctuary was a haven for these delicate creatures. It was designed with natural plantings to attract butterflies.

But the early 2000s brought challenges. Kroksbäcksparken was considered shabby. It was even seen as unsafe. However, this marked the beginning of an overhaul. The park was revitalized.

Kroksbäcksparken is primarily enjoyed by residents of Kroksbäck and Holma. It is used less by people from other parts of Malmö. This park covers 26 hectares.

In 2009, something unique arrived. The world’s first undulating football pitch was created near Kroksbäcksskolan. Imagine a football field with bumps and curves. This is no ordinary pitch.

More recently, Kroksbäcksparken expanded by approximately 1.5 hectares. In October 2022, the expanded park was inaugurated. Malmö’s first parkour facility for outdoor use was included. This was created in collaboration with TIP generation.

The park’s design is inspired by Minecraft. You can see the classic block walls from the game. Besides parkour, there is street basketball. You can also find ping pong tables and trampolines. A themed playground adds to the fun.

The park also provides spaces for social gatherings. There is a square, seating areas and plantings. The park connects to the existing skate park.

Kroksbäcksparken embodies Malmö’s environmental focus. It aims to be the Öresund region’s most climate-smart area. From farmland to a vibrant community space, Kroksbäcksparken has transformed. It offers recreation, nature and social connection.
