Permanently closed That’s the first thing you’ll notice about Celsius Projects. A once vibrant hub of contemporary art in Malmö Sweden. It’s a shame really. Celsius Projects wasn’t just a gallery. It was a place where art came alive.

Founded in 2017 by Francis Patrick Brady and Max Ockborn Celsius Projects quickly made a name for itself. It wasn’t your typical stuffy gallery. Think exhibitions talks and workshops all designed to be performative edifying playful and critically engaging. The artists weren’t just showcasing their work they were actively creating it alongside the community. Nature and the audience were integral parts of the process. Lena Bergendahl joined the team later becoming a key figure in its success.

Imagine the energy the collaborations. The creative spirit that flowed through Celsius Projects. The gallery hosted a diverse roster of artists. Their works ranged from installations to photography to multi-media projects. Think Christofer Degrér’s striking amber subfinity installations or Salka Hellbacka’s welcoming Välkommen pieces. Johan F Karlsson’s photographic prints on silk and stone were equally captivating. The gallery’s influence extended beyond individual artists. Francis Patrick Brady curated exhibition series like Magick Anti-category Ritual Carnivalesque from the Five Forms of Play. These involved artists like Albin Werle Arianne Churchman Desmond Church and Anna Margrethe Pedersen. The gallery fostered a unique dialogue between artists and viewers a genuine exchange of ideas and experiences.

By 2023 the leadership team changed. Elisabet Anna Kristjánsdóttir joined Brady and Janneke Schoene to continue the legacy. Unfortunately even this renewed energy could not save Celsius Projects. The gallery ultimately closed its doors.

Yet even in its closure Celsius Projects’ legacy remains. Its unique approach to contemporary art its vibrant community engagement. Its commitment to pushing boundaries is a testament to its spirit. It’s a reminder that even though a physical space may disappear its impact on the art world endures. It’s a story that needs to be told a story of creativity collaboration and community in Malmö.
