The story of the Mahmood Mosque begins long before its physical construction. It starts with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s arrival in Sweden in 1956. Kamal Yousuf was directed to open a mission in Scandinavia. This marked the beginning of the community’s presence here. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community was officially registered in Sweden in 1970.
Fast forward to April 12, 2014. The foundation stone laying ceremony took place. This was a momentous occasion for the community. Construction moved swiftly. By May 13, 2016, the Mahmood Mosque was completed.
Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad inaugurated the Mahmood Mosque during his tour of Scandinavia in 2016. He is the fifth Caliph of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. This event marked a significant milestone. It solidified the mosque’s role as a spiritual center.
The Mahmood Mosque can accommodate up to 300 worshippers. It serves a thriving community of around 300 Ahmadis in Malmö. Four Imams oversee the Jamat Ahmadiyya Sweden. They are spread across four locations. These locations are Malmö, Gothenburg, Luleå, and Stockholm.
