Here stands the Vasco da Gama Garden. It is a serene escape in Macau. Are you ready to explore its history and beauty?

The Vasco da Gama Garden was created in the 19th century. It was part of the Vasco da Gama avenue. The avenue was built in 1898. Victory Garden was also part of this avenue. The avenue itself was later demolished in 1935. It was built to honor the 400th anniversary. This marked the arrival of Vasco da Gama’s fleet in India.

In 1911, a bust of Vasco da Gama was erected. This bust still stands as a tribute today. The Vasco da Gama Garden underwent renovations in 1997. Fountains and barrier-free access were added. A small pond was built on the upper level. In 2004, another renovation took place. An underground car park was constructed beneath the garden.

The Vasco da Gama Garden is located in Sāo Lázaro. It sits between Rua de Ferreira do Amaral. It also lies between Calçada do Gaio and Estrada da Vitória. The garden spans 5,000 square meters. That is about 54,000 square feet.

A wave-shaped lake graces the lower level. A fountain with waterspouts adds to the charm. The Vasco da Gama Garden stretches 500 meters long. It is 65 meters wide. The garden consists of two plots of land.

Augusto César d’Abreu Nunes designed the Vasco da Gama Garden. In 1980, a children’s playground was added. In 2005, modifications were made during the construction of a carpark. This was in time for the East Asian Games.

Tomás da Costa created the bust of Vasco da Gama in 1911. It stands on a pedestal in the garden’s center. The garden is surrounded by a hotel. A police headquarters, schools, and a gymnasium are also nearby.

Formerly, the avenue was named Av. Vasco da Gama. It is now Rua Ferreira do Amaral. The gardens sit near Av. Sidónio Pais. The Vasco da Gama Garden offers a tranquil retreat. It blends history and nature seamlessly. Take a moment to appreciate this green haven.
