Did the walls of the ehemaliges Böll-Haus whisper secrets of activism and community? We stand before the ehemaliges Böll-Haus, once a vibrant hub of social and environmental activism in Lüneburg. From 1990 to 2023, this building, also known as the Heinrich-Böll-Haus, pulsed with the energy of over 20 initiatives. Groups like Greenpeace, BUND, and Fridays for Future found a home within these walls. The ehemaliges Böll-Haus wasn’t just a building. It was a catalyst for change, a meeting point for discussions, and a launchpad for projects that aimed to make the world a better place. The very name, Heinrich-Böll-Haus, pays homage to the Nobel laureate and his dedication to human rights and peace. This building embodied those ideals. The former residents shared not just resources like printers and projectors, but also their dreams and visions. They collaborated on projects, supported each other, and became a tight-knit community. The Infocafé Anna&Arthur, located on the ground floor, was a popular gathering spot. Here, people from diverse backgrounds came together for lectures, cultural events, film screenings, and shared meals. Sadly, this era of collaboration came to an end. Rising costs and legal battles led to the eviction of the initiatives in 2023. The ehemaliges Böll-Haus now stands silent, a poignant reminder of a lost community. Yet, the spirit of the ehemaliges Böll-Haus lives on in the memories of those who worked within its walls and in the positive changes they brought to Lüneburg. The fight for a better future continues, even though its physical hub is gone.
