Fifty-five meters of history loom before you. That’s the Lüneburg Water Tower. A giant among buildings.

The Lüneburg Water Tower isn’t just a pretty face. It’s a testament to Lüneburg’s past. Built between 1905 and 1907 it served the city well for decades. The architect Franz Krüger brought Richard Kampf’s designs to life.

Imagine the workers back then. Toiling away on this imposing structure. They created something that still stands tall today. The tower stands proudly. It’s the tallest building in the old town not counting the churches. Its square base measures 18 meters. A round section surrounds a 500 cubic meter water tank. Sixteen solid columns support the upper part.

The tower’s history is full of twists and turns. It operated until 1986. Plans to demolish it were thankfully scrapped due to high costs. It was then declared a cultural heritage monument. This saved it from destruction. The Lüneburg Water Tower has a unique story.

A major renovation for EXPO 2000 gave it a new lease on life. Today it’s a scenic viewpoint a beacon for visitors. Climb its 220 steps. Reach the top for breathtaking views of Lüneburg and beyond.

This water tower is more than a structure. It’s a symbol of the city’s resilience and its rich heritage. It’s a story etched in brick and stone. A story waiting to be discovered. Step inside. Discover a piece of Lüneburg’s soul.
