Imagine a basketball palazzo. That is how Steve Ballmer described his vision for the Intuit Dome. Welcome to the new home of the Los Angeles Clippers. It is also a premier venue for concerts and events.

Intuit Dome opened its doors for the 2024-25 season. This technologically advanced arena is in Inglewood, California. The arena aims to deliver an intimate experience. It wants to redefine what it means to be the best.

Before Intuit Dome, the Clippers shared Crypto.com Arena with the Lakers. The Clippers never had tangible ownership in their home arenas. Steve Ballmer saw the construction of a dedicated arena as a high priority.

The road to Intuit Dome was not without obstacles. Lawsuits tried to prevent its construction. The Madison Square Garden Company feared competition with The Forum. Steve Ballmer even bought The Forum to settle litigation.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on September 17, 2021. Ballmer’s vision was to create a basketball-specific arena. Intuit secured the naming rights in a 23-year deal. The financial software company invested at least $500 million.

Bruno Mars inaugurated Intuit Dome with shows on August 15 and 16, 2024. The Clippers played their first preseason game on October 14. They won against the Dallas Mavericks. Their first regular season game was against the Phoenix Suns. They lost in overtime. The Clippers got their first regular season win against the San Antonio Spurs.

AECOM designed the 18,000-seat arena. It features a practice facility and a sports medicine clinic. There are team offices and retail space. A large outdoor plaza has basketball courts open to the public.

One unique feature is “The Wall”. This is 51 consecutive rows for Clippers fans near the visitor’s bench. It is similar to the “Yellow Wall” in Dortmund, Germany. The arena has over 1,100 toilets. This is three times the league average.

The arena boasts a double-sided halo board. Daktronics designed the video board. It covers 38,375 square feet. It has a 4K resolution display. Steve Ballmer demonstrated features like “player 360” and “coaches corner”.

Several pieces of public artwork enhance the arena. Glenn Kaino’s “Sails” greets visitors at the entrance. Jennifer Steinkamp’s “Swoosh” displays light animations. Refik Anadol’s “Living Arena” features live data. Patrick Martinez’s “Same Boat” honors the Clippers’ nautical origins. Kyungmi Shin’s “Spring to Life” depicts basketball players. Michael Massenburg’s “Cultural Playground” depicts Los Angeles’s arts scene.

Kevin Durant was baffled by “The Wall.” He noted the intense environment. Devin Booker joked about the cost of the wall. He said, “You spend $2 billion, put a wall up.”

Intuit Dome will host the 2026 NBA All-Star Game. It will also serve as a basketball venue during the 2028 Summer Olympics. Usher, Weezer and Cyndi Lauper have already performed at the venue. WWE Raw on Netflix premiered at Intuit Dome on January 6, 2025.

The Intuit Dome isn’t just a playground. It’s a basketball and entertainment sanctuary. It sets a lofty standard. Steve Ballmer has created something special here. It blends advanced technology with human interaction.
