In 2002, a beacon of hope emerged from the ashes of 9/11. The Islamic Information Center (IIC), also known as Masjid Al-Noor, was established in Las Vegas. This center was created to address the misconceptions about Islam and foster understanding. The IIC’s location, across from McCarran International Airport’s C terminal, makes it easily accessible. The Islamic Information Center aimed to be a place for education and dialogue. They wanted to build bridges between the Muslim and non-Muslim communities. The IIC isn’t just a mosque; it’s a hub of activity. It offers a variety of services. Educational programs delve into the monotheistic nature of Islam. Several departments within the center cater to different needs. The center’s vision includes a Junior Scholar Program for children and youth involvement. They envisioned the IIC becoming a vital resource for families. Dr. Saleha K. Baig, the President and Founder, spearheaded this initiative. The IIC was built on a 1.62-acre site purchased in 2007. The total cost, including land and construction, reached around $2,000,000. Masjid Al-Noor itself covers about 7,000 square feet. It houses a prayer area, a library, a bookstore, and ample parking. The IIC also envisioned a Hifz School (Al-Saliheen), an Early Childhood Development Center, a Youth Development Center, and a Muslim Community Center. The Islamic Information Center welcomes visitors. They encourage anyone with questions about Islam to drop by or connect online. The IIC also has a presence on Facebook and Twitter. The center’s amenities include restrooms, parking, facilities for women, and wheelchair accessibility.
