Did you know that Saint Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Boulder City Nevada isn’t just a pretty building? It’s a living testament to the spirit of the Hoover Dam era. Imagine the dust and sweat of the 1930s. The roaring sounds of construction. Thousands of workers toiled to build one of the greatest engineering marvels of the world. Amidst this monumental undertaking Saint Christopher’s Episcopal Church emerged. A sanctuary of peace a quiet place of worship amidst the chaos. It was one of only four original churches built for the dam workers. Only Saint Christopher’s and Grace Community Church still stand today.

Saint Christopher’s Episcopal Church opened its doors in 1932. It was a mission church ministering to the thousands of workers building Hoover Dam. Bishop Thomas Jenkins and Father Arthur Keane journeyed from Las Vegas to hold services. They brought comfort and faith to these men and women far from home. Think of the solace these services offered. A place to pray for strength a place to find hope in the face of arduous labor.

The church was built on a plot of land granted by the government. It remains largely unchanged from its original construction. Despite a fire in the mid-1970s it stands as a beautiful example of early 20th-century architecture. This stunning structure features a high altar made of rhyolite. A gift from a Goldfield Nevada church. The walls are adorned with photographs of oil paintings by Mary Virginia Lee. They depict scenes of faith and hope. These are visual reminders of the church’s enduring legacy.

Even before the church building was complete a significant event happened. On March 6 1932 Father Keane’s youngest daughter Alice was baptized near the cross outside the building. This simple act marked the beginning of a rich history of faith and community. Saint Christopher’s Church held meetings at the Union Pacific depot. A place that doubled as a bus terminal. These twice monthly gatherings brought the community together in worship and fellowship.

Today Saint Christopher’s Episcopal Church continues its legacy of service. It’s known for its extensive outreach programs. It supports many local charities. It provides meals for the homeless and helps those in need. The church’s commitment to community shows its enduring spirit. It’s a place where faith hope and love come together.
