On a December day in 1994, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sri Utama first opened its doors. Originally known as Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jalan 227, the school began with just ten classrooms. Six classes were for Form One, and four were transition classes. Seventeen teachers guided the initial 350 students. Today, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sri Utama has grown significantly. The student body has expanded to 821 students. This includes 463 boys and 358 girls. The teaching staff has also increased to 56, supported by nine staff members. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sri Utama now boasts 33 classrooms, catering to Forms One through Five. The school buildings are vibrantly named: Mutiara, Nilam, Delima, and Zamrud blocks. A computer lab was added in mid-2004, further enhancing the learning environment. Thanks to sponsorship from Carrefour Malaysia, a Reading Hut was also established in early 2004. This provides a conducive space for students to delve into the world of books. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sri Utama embraces a philosophy that recognizes the potential within each student.
