KLCC Park officially opened in 1998. It was part of the larger Kuala Lumpur City Centre project. This project included the Petronas Twin Towers and Suria KLCC Mall. The park’s design is credited to Roberto Burle Marx. He was a world-renowned Brazilian landscape architect. His vision was clear. He wanted to create a tranquil green space amidst the bustling city. It was also said to be the last work undertaken by him.

Spanning 50 acres the KLCC Park is more than just a recreational area. It enhances the city’s natural environment. The park offers a calm contrast to the city’s hustle. It combines man-made designs with natural features. You will see cement work alongside trees and shrubs.

Conservation played a big role in creating KLCC Park. Many mature trees were saved from the old Selangor Turf Club. They were then replanted here. Around 1900 indigenous trees were planted. Additionally 66 species of palms promote bio-diversity. These trees were chosen to attract local and migratory birds. Imagine the vibrant birdlife this park supports.

Take a look at the man-made lake in the middle of KLCC Park. Notice the 280-meter-high water fountain. It sits directly in front of the Suria KLCC mall and Petronas Twin Towers. There is also a 4.3-meter elevated bridge across the lake. This gives great views of the park and the towers.

The Lake Symphony is a highlight. It is a 10000 square meter lake with water fountains. The main fountain jets water up to 280 meters high. At night, lights and music accompany the fountains daily. It is a spectacular sight.

For those who love to exercise there is a 1.3 km jogging track. It is covered with EPDM. This is a special rubberized material for comfort and safety. Rest areas dot interconnecting footpaths.

Keep an eye out for the ornamental water features. Waterfalls, fountains and reflecting pools are all around the KLCC Park.

If you have children the playground will delight them. It includes a public pool on the park’s west side.

Did you know there is a mosque within the park? It is called the As Syakirin Mosque. It provides a place for prayer and reflection.
