In the aftermath of unimaginable horror, the Centre National Pastorale stands as a solemn reminder. It became a refuge for Tutsi seeking safety during the Rwandan Genocide in 1994. Tragically, the Centre National Pastorale became both a sanctuary and a site of immense suffering. On June 14, 1994, a large attack targeted the Centre, resulting in the abduction and murder of between 72 and 80 Tutsi. A glimmer of hope emerged on the night of June 16th. RPF Inkotanyi forces, in a daring operation, liberated many Tutsi from the Centre, leading them to safety. However, some, fearing it was a trick, remained and tragically met their deaths the following day. The Centre National Pastorale stands today as a testament to both the resilience of the human spirit and the devastating consequences of hatred.
