Ahmad Shah Durrani the founder of the Durrani Empire patronized the construction of the initial structure. A single dome originally covered the sacred rock. Later Amanullah Khan’s mother added a second dome. Extensive renovations between 2008 and 2016 resulted in four additional domes. This reflects the mosque’s growing significance and the community’s continued devotion.
