Gazing at the vibrant hues of the Sri Subramanian Temple, one might wonder about its origins. The Sri Subramanian Temple’s story began not here in Bandar Dato’ Onn, but at the PUB quarters, the Public Utilities Board waterworks of Singapore stationed in Johor Bahru. In the early days, it served the Malayalee workers of PUB and the estate’s people. The Pannguni Uttira festival was a grand celebration, a four-day event that drew nearly 2,000 people from five divisions, including Adda Estate and Ladang Tebrau. Time marched forward, and Tebrau Estate was slated for development, transforming into Bandar Dato’ Onn. Mr. Chandran PIS, former Temple Chairman and MIC Tebrau branch Chairman, oversaw a significant change. Two existing estate temples, the Sri Subramanian Temple and the Devi Karumariamman Temple, merged into a single entity. This unified temple retained the name Sri Subramanian Alayam. The developers of Bandar Dato’ Onn, Johor Land, generously provided half an acre of land and RM 120,000 to support the new temple’s construction. The foundation stones were laid, and piling work commenced on May 12, 2006. The temple steadily rose, a testament to community effort and devotion. Upon its completion, the Maha Kumbhaabishegam pooja, a sacred consecration ceremony, was performed in October 2003. Even today, the temple continues to evolve. The current committee, under the guidance of Tuan Vidhyanathan, continues to work to preserve and enhance the Sri Subramanian Temple. They strive to honor its rich history while ensuring its vibrant presence in the community.
