In 2010, a seed of faith was planted in the hearts of two friends, Tyrell Haag and Michael Rogers. They felt a calling to bring light to the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. This led to the birth of the Heritage Baptist Church. The Heritage Baptist Church held its first service on January 2nd, 2011. It officially became a church on February 5th, 2012. Initially, the congregation met at the Craighall Park Scouts Hall. In 2014, a blessing arrived. The Heritage Baptist Church acquired its own building in Melville. The church’s influence extended beyond Johannesburg. In 2018, a Bible study group in Potchefstroom blossomed into a new church. This was led by Masauso Phiri and Timothy Olsen, with Heritage Baptist Church overseeing its development. This new church solidified its presence in March 2022, ordaining Riaan Strydom as its pastor later that year. After the challenging times of the pandemic, Heritage Baptist Church found itself growing rapidly. The Melville building was no longer sufficient. In 2024, the church purchased land in Craighall Park, near the original Scouts Hall. The Heritage Baptist Church plans to build a new home here, a testament to its growth and enduring spirit.
