Mondeor is located in Region F of Johannesburg. We are just a short drive from the city center. It is only about 15 minutes.

Mondeor’s history began on Witwatersrand farm. The farm was called Ormonde. In 1958, Mondeor was established. Its name is an anagram. It is an anagram of the old farm name.

The Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve is partly in Mondeor. The northern hills are sandstone. The southern hills are igneous.

Mondeor has four schools. There is Mondeor Primary. There is Dalmondeor and Mondeor High School. Also, there is Hartford College. Mondeor Primary School opened in 1953. The first school was a log cabin. It was near the current tennis club. The school moved in 1955.

Mondeor High School opened in 1974. There were standards 6, 7, and 8 at the time. A new standard was added each year. The first Matriculation class was in 1976.

A fun fact, parts of a novel are set in Mondeor. It is the 2010 novel called Happiness is a Four-Letter Word.

Mondeor had 8,021 residents in 2011. The population density was 2,200 per square kilometer. 45.1% were Black African. 16.4% were Coloured. 13.5% were Indian/Asian. 23.3% were White. 1.8% were Other.

English is spoken by 51.4%. Zulu is spoken by 12.6%. Afrikaans is spoken by 10.4%. Sotho is spoken by 6.9%. Other languages account for 18.7%.

Mondeor is close to many places. Southgate is to the north. Winchester Hills is to the west. Alberton is to the east. Meyerton is to the south. Also, Soweto is nearby.
