It’s a living story of Jeju Island’s unique natural heritage. Located on the edge of Shin Jeju, this sprawling arboretum boasts over 1,100 plant species, from native Jeju flora to exotic subtropical treasures. A short walk from the entrance reveals a glasshouse showcasing rare Jeju plants. The deep green of the East Asian euchresta and the delicate fronds of the Jeju grapefern stand out against the dark basalt, creating a visual feast. The Orchid Exhibition Hall is a must-see. Here, the Cymbidium orchids, designated Natural Monument No. 191, share the space with Sickle Neofinetia and Cymbidium Goeringii. The volcanic stones artfully placed throughout the hall add an unexpected touch of Jeju’s volcanic origins. Beyond the Orchid Exhibition Hall lies Jukrimwon, a bamboo forest. Thick-stemmed, Korean, and broad-leaf bamboos line the wooden deck trail. Their evergreen presence creates a cool, refreshing atmosphere. Continue on to Ikkiwon, the moss garden, a verdant carpet of liverwort, big hair moss, and carpet moss. Even the tiniest moss seems precious in this tranquil setting. If you have time, explore the Gwangioreum Trail. This gently sloping path meanders through fragrant wildflowers. For a shorter visit, focus on the glasshouse, orchid exhibition, Jukrimwon, and Ikkiwon. This loop takes about 30-40 minutes. Families with children will enjoy the Nature Ecology Agritainment Hall.
