“Ever wondered about a church that moved?” I ask you, standing before Saint Mary’s on the Harbour. This isn’t just any church. It’s the Church of England church for the Parish of Castletown.
Saint Mary’s on the Harbour has served its community since 1985. Before that the congregation gathered at the Garrison Church in Castletown Square. Imagine the bustle of moving an entire congregation and all its traditions.
The church is located in a converted schoolhouse right on the harbour. The location reflects its deep connection to Castletown, the Isle of Man’s former capital. Saint Mary’s presence here is a welcoming beacon.
St Mary’s offers many services. Sunday brings Holy Communion at 8 am. Morning Prayer follows at 10:30 am. Evening Prayer is at 5:30 pm.
For younger members there is ‘The Loft’. It meets at 6:30 pm on Sundays during term time. Young people aged 11 plus can enjoy Christian teaching worship fun and games. Table tennis pool and badminton are all on offer.
Saint Mary’s on the Harbour also hosts various groups. There is a Wednesday morning home group. A Thursday evening home group meets too. Saturday mornings bring coffee and chat at the church. These groups offer fellowship and support to all.
Each year Saint Mary’s on the Harbour runs an Alpha course. This course introduces people to the Christian faith. It is great for those wanting to investigate Christianity. New Christians and those wanting to brush up on the basics are welcome too.
