Beyond the gate opposite Colby Chapel, a secret awaits. The Millennium Stone, Arbory, stands silently. It’s a modern monument, erected in 2000. It’s not an ancient relic, but a testament to community spirit. The Millennium Stone circle was the brainchild of Arbory Commissioner Selwyn Rhys Morgan. He envisioned a communal space for recreation and small events. His plan included a tree planting scheme and a stone circle as a contemplative feature. The stones themselves are a gift. They were transported and erected free of charge by David Craine Plant Hire, sourced from Earystane Quarry. The trees were planted at cost by the Department of Transport. Morgan even incorporated his knowledge of ancient stone circles. He included a Bard Stone in the circle, a nod to Druidic beliefs. The Millennium Stone, Arbory, is more than just stones in a field. It’s a symbol of community collaboration and a peaceful space for contemplation. It’s a modern monument imbued with a touch of ancient spirit.
