Is this the legacy of Henry Scott, one of Stephen F. Austin’s “Old 300” colonists? The Trone-Ray-Lane House stands before us as a testament to his 1824 land grant. It was built in 1909 as a wedding present. Rancher-banker Earl R. Trone and his wife were the lucky recipients. Her parents, hailing from Indiana, wanted a sturdy home for their daughter. They chose pine and cypress for the structure. They also insisted on a granite foundation. This home was built to withstand hurricanes and floods. Taylor and Mattie N. Ray purchased the house in 1925. Taylor Ray became a prominent figure in Rosenberg. He served on the first Rosenberg Board of Aldermen and even became mayor. His dedication to education led him to be president of the Rosenberg School Board for 24 years. Today, the Trone-Ray-Lane House remains in the Ray family, now owned by the Lanes. They lovingly restored it in 1964, ensuring its place in history. This house whispers tales of love, ambition, and enduring family ties.
