The Fallen Warriors Memorial came to life because of one woman. Cheryl Whitfield felt a deep need to honor those who gave everything. She tirelessly worked to rally support. CY CHAMP PUD and the National Memorial Ladies joined her. Countless others helped make this dream a reality.
The monument’s design has a special purpose. It is designed to keep their memories alive. The sacrifices will never fade. The families of the fallen will always be remembered. This is the heart of the Fallen Warriors Memorial.
This serene and tranquil site offers ample parking and seating. Here visitors can reflect and remember. The memorial is located at 14641 Cutten Rd in Houston.
The Fallen Warriors Memorial honors those who served in specific operations. These include Operation Iraqi Freedom OIF. Also Operation New Dawn OND. Furthermore, Operation Enduring Freedom OEF. Finally, Operation Freedom’s Sentinel OFS. These were all part of the war against terrorism.
But there is more. The Art FWM Gallery honors Texas Fallen Warriors. It is presented by The Fallen Warriors Memorial and Cy-Champ Public Utility District.
Entering the Fallen Warriors Memorial Portrait Gallery is a moving experience. You come face to face with Texas’s fallen. These are sons and daughters. Also siblings and spouses. Each took an oath. They defended our country. They paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
Ken “The Dauber” Pridgeon is an artist with a mission. He paints portraits of these heroes. He incorporates specific personal details into each painting. The families of the fallen receive a print. This is his way of honoring their loved ones.
Pridgeon’s paintings are not for sale. However, the gallery is open to visitors. You can view some of the over 350 portraits he has painted.
Ken Pridgeon started painting while serving in the Air Force. After his military service, he painted billboards in Houston. He began painting portraits of fallen heroes from Texas. They fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has expanded his mission. Now he includes fallen heroes from across the United States.
