Consider the UT Health School of Public Health a cornerstone of Texas’s health legacy. It began modestly. The Texas Legislature authorized its creation in 1947. Funding didn’t arrive until 1967. The school opened its doors. UTHealth School of Public Health admitted its first class in the fall of 1969.

UTHealth School of Public Health quickly expanded. The second year saw enrollment double. It doubled again in the third year. Growth has continued ever since. UTHealth brings together many schools. These include the Medical School, School of Nursing, and School of Dentistry. Also included are the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the School of Biomedical Informatics. The UT Harris County Psychiatric Center is also a part of UTHealth.

The main campus thrives in Houston’s Texas Medical Center. It initially used rented space. Today, it has its own buildings. Regional campuses extend its reach. These are in San Antonio, El Paso, Dallas, Brownsville, and Austin.

UTHealth School of Public Health holds impressive rankings. It is the #1 School of Public Health in Texas. This is according to U.S. News & World Report 2021. It is also a top school for NIH funding. The school offers a range of degrees. These include master’s and doctoral programs. The M.P.H., M.S., Dr.P.H., and Ph.D. degrees are available. Certificate programs in public health are also offered.

UTHealth School of Public Health has four departments. These are Biostatistics and Data Science. There is also Epidemiology, Human Genetics and Environmental Sciences. Further departments are Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences. Lastly, Management, Policy and Community Health exists.

Dual degree programs enhance education. These include MD/MPH programs. Partnerships exist with Baylor College of Medicine. They also partner with Texas Tech Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School is also a partner. UTHealth collaborates with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine. UTHealth also collaborates with UTHealth McGovern Medical School.
