In 1995, a new chapter began in Sunyani. Bishop Dr. Paul Owusu-Tabiri, a figure deeply rooted in the Church of Pentecost, embarked on a new spiritual journey. He founded the Bethel Prayer Ministry International. Bethel Prayer Ministry International quickly blossomed, extending its reach far beyond Sunyani. Its message resonated across Ghana and even internationally, establishing branches worldwide. Bethel Prayer Ministry International’s headquarters remained in Sunyani, a testament to its origins. Sadly, Bishop Owusu-Tabiri’s leadership was cut short. In 2005, while on a European tour, he fell ill. He returned to Ghana for treatment but passed away at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra on June 2nd. His funeral was a significant event, attended by dignitaries and traditional chiefs alike. The President of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor, sent representatives and a generous donation. The final resting place of Bishop Owusu-Tabiri was a matter of much deliberation. Initially intended for the Bethel Camp in Sunyani, he was ultimately laid to rest in Tanforo, near Dormaa-Ahenkro. This decision was a collaborative one, reached by the Bethel Church Executive Council and the Bishop’s family. The procession to Tanforo was a poignant journey. The casket was first brought to the prepared tomb at Bethel Camp in Sunyani for a final prayer. Then, an ambulance transported the Bishop to his final resting place in Tanforo. Bethel Prayer Ministry International remains a testament to Bishop Owusu-Tabiri’s vision. It continues to serve as a spiritual home for many, carrying on the legacy of its founder.
